Very well done to all the people who entered the competition. There were quite a lot of entries and it was a really difficult job this year to choose the winning photographs. Our congratulations to the worthy winners!

Here are the winning pictures month by month with comments from the judges:

front cover smallThis photograph by Monika Seyffer jumped out to both Derek and I. I love the expression on the lion's face and the silky smoothness of the lion's mane. The light is perfect, allowing the subject to be separated from the dark background. A worthy winner and will look amazing on the front cover of the calendar. Well done.

2023 January

This is a stunning photograph, by Florian Kriechbaumer, of a leopard and cub in a tree. I love the composition. I immediately looked at the adult and then picked up on the cub a few seconds later. The photo is further enhanced by being converted to black and white.

2023 February

This photograph, by Monika Seyffer, makes me want to jump on a plane and get back to Africa. Beautiful interaction of the lion cubs climbing on mum. Great photo of a very special sighting.

2023 March

Lovely photograph by Paul Meek of a yawning lion cub. Great timing to get it mid yawn and great composition.

2023 April

Taken by Bridget Fry in the golden hour of sunlight, I really like the composition of this shot with the lioness looking towards the space in the photo. It leaves the observer wondering what she is looking at.

2023 May

Proof you don't need to go to Africa to get in the calendar. Lovely photograph, by Anna Carroll, of this puss exploring the garden, surrounded by beautiful colour.

2023 June

A rare sighting of the illusive leopard. This photograph, by Bridget Fry, shows how effective the leopard's camouflage is and I like how a fast shutter speed has been used to freeze the movement of the water that it is drinking.

2023 July

A long lens portrait shot, by Paul Meek, of this majestic lion is both simple and powerful.

2023 August

A nice shot, by Ian Ogden, of two young lionesses showing their affection for each other. Their fur colour is a good blend with the muddy bank.

 2023 September

Looking for their next play moment, a pair of very observant cubs beautifully captured, by Anna Carroll, through a long lens, as the warm evening light casts a lovely glow.

2023 October

A superb shot of two cheetahs by Monika Seyffer. Wildlife photography is all about waiting for the right moment with the right balance of light and dark. Making this shot in monochrome is perfection. Well done.

 2023 November

A nicely observed angle in the warm evening light adds calm to this lovely shot of a lion cub by Paul Meek. The glint in its eye adds to the peaceful moment he is enjoying.

2023 December

A grumpy looking lioness nicely observed, by Monika Seyffer, in a rather uncomfortable position in the curves of the branches. Always on the lookout.

 2024 January

An unusual angle of this lion, excellenty captured by Paul Meek, brings home how alert they always are. His piercing eye is on constant watch.

This calendar will make a great Christmas present. Don't forget to get your orders in early!!
